The objective of this work is to show the application of the theory of political realism in international relations, in the context of the beginnings of the republic, after the war of independence, by the President of Peru General José de La Mar. A theoretical framework on political realism, with references to authors such as Clulow and Morgenthau to have a scientific basis from which to analyze and interpret the historical facts exposed by Basadre, Concha, the Magazine of Military Historical Studies and publications of the National Library of Ecuador. All of which allows us to conclude on the realistic vision of the foreign policy of General La Mar and the factors that prevented him from materializing it in its entirety, as well as recommending the study of this political theory for its application in the international relations of Peru.
